Whether you’re looking for a job, have a job or own your own business, if you want to get out more this summer and go to some events relating to work, then we’ve got suggestions for you. Perhaps you just want to get out there and meet like-minded people, if they’re in your industry and have the same background you’ll likely have something in common from the get-go. Here’s a roundup of typical business events open to you.
Business Dinners
A business dinner is a great way to meet people and an easy way to chat. With everyone sat down at the dinner table you will inevitably strike up conversation with those sitting next to you. This is a great opportunity to talk about anything and very easy to exchange business cards.
Trade Shows
If you’re feeling brave why not set up your own show at a trade show or simply attend one and strike up conversation with those who do have a space. The conversation will be around the stand that you have but this can create a real hive of activity. The more interactive the more interested others will be in the stand and the longer they’ll stay to chat further.
Gender Specific Groups
If you feel more comfortable with your own gender, why not attend a gender-specific group for women or men in business. There may be a joining fee but for most organisations, you can attend a few times at a fixed rate and see whether you like the group before you commit to joining. The perk of a group is that they’ll meet regularly, giving you time to form real bonds either professionally or socially.
Product Launches
You can host or attend one of these and there’s usually a lot of excitement around them. This is an opportunity to showcase a new product but also an opportunity to meet new people.
Company Birthday or Holiday Party
This shows gratitude to staff and can open the door for new people too. Why not invite influencers and bump your brand on social media. Celebrate everything that’s great about your company. It could be your company’s birthday or just a summer hurrah to show appreciation to the staff. Everyone loves a party. If you’re feeling left out of the loop, why not ask friends and family if they have any up-coming company parties, sometimes a plus one will be on the invite.
Networking Events
Networking events are a great way to meet people. They are larger gatherings with drinks and nibbles, usually less sit-down meal situation but they can be. The idea is to talk to as many people as possible in an industry-specific environment and discuss how you might be able to help one another further in the area of business you’re in. Business cards at the ready.
Seminars
Attending a seminar is a great way to get out and learn more about the field. You may not meet people as freely as other events, as you’ll likely be taking in the information but lectures and presentations should give you some food for thought to take away with you on your industry and how to improve your skillset or your business.
Charity Events
Most people can attend a gala dinner for a charity if they wish. You can purchase tickets online. These are usually sit down meals, black or white tie events, often with dinner and dancing afterward. This is a great time to give back to a cause you support and meet other like-minded individuals.
